We're here! All's well

Hello everybody.

It's 11PM here in Rome and as I write all the students are in their rooms and the lights are out.

We had an uneventful journey with no delays, although a rather officious airport guard told us off for being too noisy, while we were waiting to go through Passport control. In truth, we weren't doing anything wrong, and if he thinks we were bad (and we were the only people in the queue) then I dread to think what this chap will be like when 20,000 English football fans descend on Rome in 48 hours' time.

Anyway, apart from this minor inconvenience the remainder of the trip was very smooth, with everybody doing the school proud with their excellent behaviour.

The Hotel Pacific is delightful and many of the rooms have large balconies with tables and chairs. Some of the group are planning meals al fresco already, especially as the weather is due to hit 32 degrees C in the next day or so. Thankfully, all the rooms are air conditioned which will be essential. Already it's a balmy night in Rome, with bright sun forecast for tomorrow morning.

Speaking of which, we will be up at 7, having breakfast at 7:30 and then off an hour later to explore the Forum, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Tomorrow night we're holding a quiz, which is always good fun.

If all goes to plan we'll have photos and maybe even some video to show you.

Arrivederci!

Welcome to the blog of the Berkhamsted Classics Trip to Italy 2009

Hello and welcome!

During our forthcoming Classics trip to Italy we'll be using this space to bring you updates on where we've been and what we've done.

Please don't worry if there isn't a daily update - it's not always easy to find an internet cafe in Sorrento and our itinerary means that on some days it won't be possible to post.

Nonetheless, we'll aim to bring you photos and text describing our journey, so you can travel with us from the comfort of your own home.
